The photograph was taken with a wide angle lens (12mm) to emphasise the dramatic angular shapes of the facades, helped by the airplane trails in the sky.

The museum opened on 19 July 2011 on Liverpool's famous waterfront. Since then it has won a number of awards, most recently the Council of Europe Museum Prize in 2013.

The striking cladding in the photograph is natural German Jura stone, and the picture window offers striking views of the city.
