Chantrelle

Chantrelle

The Discosoma neglecta, most commonly known as the Umbrella Mushroom, is named for its obvious shape. This mushroom looks like an inverted umbrella, or a dome shape where someone pushed the center down. Yet the middle area is raised and tapers down to the edges. The generic name Cantharellus is derived from the Latin word 'cantharus' meaning a drinking vessel, a bowl or a chalice.

Commonly found in woodland, Chanterelles show a preference for acid soils, edible.
