The descent of Scales Fell offers views eastwards to the North Pennines and the snow covered Howgill Fells.


Alfred Wainwright refers to Blencathra (845m) as "a mountaineers mountain", it is often referred to as 'Saddleback' due to the Saddle shaped ridge between Blencathra summit and Foule Crag.
